Swans in Lotus Pond

This is my 400th Rangoli. Thank you all for motivating me to achieve this mile stone. Without your suggestions, comments and encouragement, I couldn't have achieved this. Hope you continue to encourage me in future as well.

Swans are one of the beautiful creatures. They have a special place in Hinduism. Swan is known as Hamsa in Sanskrit and many Indian Languages. It is symbol of purity and Satvaguna. They are supposed to reside in Manasa Sarovar Lake which is sacred to Hindus. 

It is known as the Vahana of Goddess Saraswati- Goddess of wisdom, knowledge, music, art, speech, learning.

Swans are very beautiful and graceful. As an artist I am always fascinated by them. Whether it is sketching, or creating designs for rangolis or embroidery, Swans are always on my mind.

Hello New Year

Hello Friends

Welcome to my blog.

Wish you all A Very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Hope this year is much much better. I am sure we are all happy to say good bye to 2020 and welcome 2021. 

I think we can never forget the year 2020. What an year it was! Locked down for so many months now. It is kind of depressing and stifling.  Couldn't go out freely. couldn't  visit friends relatives or neighbors. No schools. No festivals. No celebrations. We did not step out of our home for the past many months. We are also not allowing any one into our home. 

I lost some of my friends, some of my relatives and mentors due to covid. It was really a very depressing year.

Then there were heavy rains for days together. It was really difficult.

This year despite being home bound, I couldn't concentrate on my blog. Not many posts. First because of Corona and then my and my moms health also had to be taken care of.  

I thought at least from December 15th I could start again with my Rangoli Posts. But  then a part of my computer crashed and all my data was in it. At first we thought we couldn't retrieve it. But slowly we are retrieving  the data as much as we can. But it is a very slow process and takes ages to retrieve even a small folder.

I don't know how much of my data I can retrieve. 

Apart from this, I had to conduct online classes for my students. This is not so easy as compared to regular classes. It took me some time to get adjusted to this. Apart from that one cannot gauge the reactions of the students as we do them face to face. Time is a limiting factor. Sudden power cuts or internet problems add to the woes. So this year I could not keep up with my schedule as there were delays.

Every year I make some New Year resolutions like all of you. Last year every thing went haywire. Nothing could be planned or done according to the schedule despite best efforts. 

I hope I can do something this year. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Have so much to do this year. But our movements are restricted because of Corona. 

Many people lost their jobs, and for those who are lucky even payments are not in full. So we have to spend very carefully. 

Hope the New Year brings us happiness.  Hope I can achieve what I want to do this year.

We can only Pray  and Hope for the best, that's all.

Sometimes, I am stuck with some formats when I am creating some new designs. 

So you can see that mostly I am using chain rangolis. But then Chain rangolis are easy to draw if they are small. However colouring these designs is difficult, when compared to other designs.

Todays Rangoli which I am sharing here is very simple and small Rangoli.

This is 13 to 7 in between dots. You can see the pattern above. 

One trick to make this Rangoli big is giving more space while placing the dots. 

I prefer small and easy rangoli during festive times because it takes less time, easy to draw and also easy to colour. We do have so many other chores at home to do. So I feel these are the best.

Intricate and big rangolis are difficult to draw, take more time and one single mistake can ruin everything. They are also difficult to colour. 

These days with small families the lady of the house has to attend to many chores. So it is difficult to manage single handedly.

Flower Vases

Rangolis are inspired by daily life. Women create many new rangolis inspired by daily life situations, objects, festivals, culture and traditions. 

Todays rangoli is thus inspired by flower vases, which come in various shapes, sizes and materials.

This design requires 21 to 1 straight dots.

Pot shaped vases filled with fresh flowers from the garden in pink and crimson colours are a beautiful sight. 

In the center is the Ashta Dala Padma or eight petalled Lotus. This has significance in Vedic astrology. It represents Muladhara Chakra in Sri Chakra. Ashta Dala Padma is drawn indifferent ways.

Happy Independence Day

Wishing you all a very Happy Independence Day. 

Here it has been raining non stop for the past three four days and that too heavily. So you can imagine how it is. Its also chilly. 

My garden is submerged under water. I have been trying to clear the planters so that water collected in them may flow out and not damage my plants. But with such a heavy rain its of no use. I can only wait till the rain stops and then assess the damage to my plants.

How are you all?

Hope you are all doing well and spending time with your family. Me and my family are also locked in our home.

Spending time by reading, gardening, stitching masks and distributing to the needy and tending to stray dogs and cats by feeding them.

Its so calm and quite and air is so fresh and pure. I am enjoying all this.

But feel so sorry for all those out there who are struggling and finding it difficult during this lockdown period.

Me, my family and my friends are all praying for better future for all of the universe. All of you please do pray. 

My health suffered a lot during the last year. I had to cope up with a lot of things. But now I am better. 

Will try to post.

Just take care of yourselves and family. Stay strictly at home. Follow all the directions of the Government and the health department. So many people are out there working for our safety even when their life is at risk.
