TAST-2019

Hello Friends!

Hope you are all doing well.

After Sankranti, I wanted to take a small break. But it got extended. So I am back now. Actually, on the academics side me and my students are in the last leg of learning for the year. So we are all concentrating on finishing of the portions and start our revisions. Thank fully I am finished up with the teaching portion though a bit later than what I actually planned at. But no problem. Now we are into our first round of revision.

Well, added to all that hectic schedules, we have a severe cold wave here. With continuous rains on the top of that, I have had some health issues. I need to strictly safe guard myself against the cold. So I am spending most of my time recovering my health.

Amidst all this, I decided to join the TAST 2019 challenge. Well the link is here:

TAST  is a challenge for embroidery, on PINTANGLE  run by Sharon Bogon a very talented  and accomplished artist in embroidery. I love her work and dedication to hand embroidery and quilting.

Actually I am a bit late in posting it here. Already four weeks have gone by. Please do visit the site and read the FAQs.

Do participate and leave me a line so that I can visit your blog/site.

There is lot to learn from this challenge. So much creativity and so many ideas.

Even if you don't participate just go through the previous works of the participants from the PINTANGLE site. There is much more on the site. Please take time to browse.

I have not yet started on the challenge. I did want to join from the first week. Any way one can jump in whenever you like and jump out. I have taken out all my embroidery materials out. It has been a long time. But I want to take it up again.

I will try to do as many as possible.

My TAST Samplers from previous years are listed out in my PAGES separately so that it is easy for you. Please do go through them.

So do watch out this space. I will be posting my TAST samplers and much more.

Beaded Hedebo Edge-1

TAST-2012-Week40-Beaded Hedebo Edge

This week Sharon has given us the Beaded Hedebo Edge as challenge. Visit Sharon's Page here for further details:

I had done a small sampler of this stitch in the previous TAST challenge. The pictures are here:

I need to explore this stitch. With renovation going on at my place, there is dust and chaos everywhere. All our belongings are dumped in one room- books, clothes -everything. I think it will take another week or two to finish the renovation. After that I have to clean my place and arrange all our things in their proper places. This may take another two to three weeks.

So with all this going on, I am not able to do much of my embroidery or any other craft. I am also afraid that my samplers and WIP might have been soiled because of the dust, though I have packed them in plastic covers. Any ways, i will try to work the sampler somehow. Can't wait that long. I already have so much to catch up with.

Basque Stitch-2

TAST-2012-Week 29-Basque Stitch

It rained here cats and dogs for the past few days. The skies were highly overcast. It rained most part of the night and in the evenings with heavy drizzling through out in the day. In such a weather it is really difficult to attend  our  daily chores leave alone any thing else.

Still I just tried a little doodling.

Here it is.....
1. Stitches with space in between
2. Stitches close together
3. Stitches with beads
4. Basque Stitch with Fly Stitch
5. Slanting Stitches. The bottom part was difficult to work. I don't know weather I got it correctly or not.
6. Basque Stitch with one sided Feather Stitch.

Need to work out a lot on this stitch. I do have lots of ideas but I don't think I have the time now...So I will note them down and work when I am a bit free....

Basque Stitch-1

TAST-2012-Week-29-Basque Stitch

29th Week's challenge announced by Sharon in TAST 2012 is Basque Stitch. Visit her site here for more info:

This is one of the simplest stitches. It is easy to stitch and once we make a few stitches, it is quite rhythmic- something like knitting.  This is one of my favorite stitches as it is easy and there is lot you can do with it.

Here is one of my attempts:
I used this stitch to decorate the neck and pockets of my kurtha. The fabric is pure heavy cotton known as Khadi-that is hand spun. You can see the colour in the below pictures better.
I made a mistake here. I could have followed the curve while stitching at the neck. But somehow I did not. So it is broken. It would have been more beautiful if I had followed the curve with out a break. But if I remember this was my first attempt and that too with out much practise.
A closer look at the stitch. I used tow stitches of Basque -one with yellow and the other with green.
Here is a look at the stitch around the pocket. Here I used single stitches inbetween the green one.
A closer look at the stitch.

This was one of my first attempts long time back-years ago. Now I would love to do a sampler. Let me try it and post it....Keep a watch on my blog.....

Bullion Knot Stitch-1

TAST-2012-Week-20-Bullion Knot Stitch

This weeks challenge for TAST 2012 announced by Sharon is Bullion Knot Stitch. Please visit her site for more details.

This is a stitch though easy needs lots of patience and time. I have tried it out before but for making loops and roses. This is actually a very good opportunity for me to work on this stitch. But here it is so very hot. With power cuts and childrens' holidays, I am not able to do much.

This is my first attempt:

You can see the bullion roses with Bullion knot leaves and detached Chain leaves. I have used BK Stitch with Feather and Detached Chain. I am still trying to think out ideas. So watch out....

Half Chevron Stitch-2

TAST-2012-Week 19-Half Chevron Stitch

Well I have been quite busy during the week on the work front. So I could only try a few stitches for my sampler. Since one of the challenges is to combine various stitches along with this stitch, I have done my sampler accordingly. Here they are:
1.  Half Chevron Stitch (HCS) with Cretan Catch Stitch and + Stitch
2. HCS laced with beads
3. HCS with Tete de Boeuf Stitch

4. Double HCS(facing each other) with beads
5. HCS with Buttonhole Wheels(half) and beads
6. HCS with Detached Chain, Beads and Stem Stitch

7. HCS with Wheat Ear Stitch, round and bugle beads
 8. HCS with Zig Zag Chain and Slipped Detached Chain Stitch

I am still doodling so watch out for more....
