Rangoli-264

Chariot or Ratham Rangoli

Another Ratham(chariot) Rangoli that can be drawn on Kanumu, Mukkanumu or the Ratha Saptami festival.

Place the dots as shown and draw the Rangoli. This can also be expanded to get a bigger Rangoli. The flags are extra.

This is easiest one of the chain or Mellicka Rangoli. I din't want to attempt a too complicated Rangoli. But in future I will post some.  Hope you like this one.

Rangoli-93

Chariot or Ratham Muggu-2

Here is one more Ratham Rangoli. This is much simpler one.

                   Ratham Muggu

This has gone a little askew. I was in such a hurry to draw it and post it, so that you can use it for Ratha Sapthami on 10th. Count the dots for each part, as they are different. Then join the dots as shown. This Ratham Muggu or Rangoli can be drawn foe sankranti or Ratha Sapthami.

Ok here it is I have the picture of the dots. I searched and re did the post. This will be easy for you now.

Ratham Rangoli

Rangoli-413

We have reached the end of our month long Rangoli festival season.

Today Sun has  entered Makara or Capricorn- known as Makara Sankranti. So it is auspicious time for next six months.

Tomorrow and day after tomorrow we will be drawing only Ratham or Chariot rangolis.

Hope you all are celebrating this festival with joy and happiness. These are tough times. What is ahead we don not know. We can only pray for better times.

Hope you like this rangoli.

Note: This one is my own original creation.

Most of these designs are my own original creations, which I create by spending much time and after hard work. So please don't post these photos or designs (even if you draw these by your own hand) on your site or blog in any format.

Please link back to my blog. I hope you understand this and respect my request. Thank You.

Rangoli-265

Chariot or Ratham Rangoli

This was drawn with the help of dots. You can see the dots in black. Even other wise this can be drawn without dots to.. Try it out and let me know. This can be expanded to get a bigger Rangoli.

I enjoyed creating and bringing these Rangolis to you this season. It was really a challenge to create so many new ones. I stuck to medium to small sized ones. Also I kept them simple and easy. One regret I have is that I could not cover many subjects in my Rangolis like, animals, birds etc. Also I could not bring you the complicated Chain Rangolis or bigger Rangolis.  It takes a lot of time for me to create, develop a Rangoli and draw it neatly, then colour and post.  Many a time even if a small thing goes wrong, I have to abandon it and draw again.

My attempt this year was to post consistently and continuously at least one Rangoli a day. Well I enjoyed it all. Hope you have enjoyed my creations.

Now I am going to take a short break from these Rangolis. I need to concentrate on so many other things, which i have been neglecting of late.

Dots are easy to count. Dots for these type of Rangolis depend upon the shape of Rangoli. We can enlarge it by  adding more dots appropriately keeping the shape intact.

Rangoli-92-

Chariot Rangoli

Chariots or Carts or Cars-known as Ratham in Telugu or Rath in Hindi-the word brings to our mind, Gods, Kings and Queens...Yes Chariots were once the mode of transport used by the kings, queens and the royalty.

In India it is believed that Gods and Goddesses travel by Chariots. Kings and queens, royalty used this mode of transport. The chariots were made of wood, gold, silver or other metals. There are so many stories and legends associated with chariots.  In Hindu Mythological stories and other literature there are lots of references to the chariots, varieties, their décor, the horses that are attached to it, their wheels and their speed.

Gods and Goddesses are paraded in the villages or near their temples in Chariots during special temple festivals or other occasions. The famous Rath Yatra or Chariot pulling ceremony of Lord Jagannath of Puri is world famous and is attended by millions every year.

When Gods and Goddesses are driven in their chariots, it is believed that pulling the chariots by the people is very auspicious and many vie for it to at least touch the rope dragging it.

Sun God who is called Prathyaksha Narayana means the God who is visible to us, is believed to travel in a chariot with one wheel and pulled by seven horses. He is worshipped daily by us Hindus but specially so on Ratha Sapthami day. Ratha means chariot and Sapthami means the seventh day of the calendar. I will do a post on all this, that is about Sun God, His Chariot and how we worship him on my other blog on spiritual/religious theme shortly.

We are going to celebrate Ratha Sapthami on 10th February 2011. This day we draw the Chariot Rangoli. This Chariot Rangoli is very famous and drawn on the last two days(3rd and 4th days) of Sankranthi festival. There are so many Rangolis on Chariots. But I have created  one specially for this occasion. Here it is:

        Ratham Muggu for Ratha Sapthami

This is 21 to 1 dots-straight dots-that is first row 21 dots next row 19 leaving one on each side and so on till 1 dot. Then join as shown above
This is the center part. You can see it clearly.
This is one end.

The flags and borders are not included in the above specified dots. That is I have added them separately.

As you can see, there are four chariots one on each side. I have drawn chariots with one wheel, Sun God, lamps and silver cups for serving the rice and milk pudding to the Sun God. It is a tradition to offer rice and milk pudding to Sun God on Ratha Sapthami day.

Rangoli-171

Ratham Muggulu

These are the traditional Ratham or Chariot Rangolis, drawn on 3rd and 4th day of the Sankranti festival.  on 3rd day the Ratham is drawn towards the house-i.e Lord is entering the house. On fourth day it is drawn going out-send off to Lord.

This is the time(whole month before Sankranti) when the local deities of the temples are brought out of temples, fully decked in fabulous and rich silks, jewellery made of gold and precious gems and decorated with flowers are paraded on chariots enabling all those people who cannot go to temples for various reasons, a glimpse of Lord. They are accompanied by the horses, elephants or other such things owned by the Deities(temples), artists performing various acts and traditional arts, musicians singing, dancers dancing with much pomp and show.

When the deities are paraded every one comes out to pray and catch a glimpse. Ladies come out with offerings of flowers, fruits, coconut,  turmeric, vermilion, beetle leaves and nut powder, some money etc. they light camphor and give aarati to the deities. Every one is then blessed by the priests. It is some thing to be seen. I miss the small town/village life where the festivals used to be celebrated with much enthusiasm.

The 4 lines in orange colour are drawn first and form the base. Then they are joined(green lines).
This is the simplest form-one tier chariot.
This is two tier chariot with 3 cells or rooms
Slightly varied form of joining the lines.

This is 3 tiered one with 6 cells.

Actually in towns and villages where one has huge front yards, huge chariots are drawn with many tiers and cells. The bigger the more appreciation from friends and neighbours. I will try to post more complicated ones and other types of Ratham drawn with dots, free hand etc.

Watch out for more....

Rangoli-299

Ratham Or Chariot Rangoli

Here is a chariot or Ratham Rangloi. You can note the dots from the design above. I have drawn it as Navaratna Ratham-the chariot studded with nine types of gems. In the center, I have drawn a chair for the Lord to sit and a lamp too.

Sorry for posting so late. I was so busy today.

This is drawn on Kanuma(third day of festival) and also on Mukkanuma(fourth day). On Kanuma(3rd day), the chariot is drawn entering into the house. It has come to pick up the Lord who has visited us during the festival. On the 4th day, the chariot is drawn going out of the house. That is the Lord is seated in the chariot and is leaving us and going off to his place. A string (a line) is drawn from the chariot on to the road as far as possible, as if it being pulled away. Usually it is linked with the chariot drawn by the neighbor. This way chariots of one is linked to the other.

Hope you like it. Watch out I may post some more tomorrow.

Ratham Muggulu

Here is one more Ratham or chariot Rangoli. this is a traditional one drawn with the help of the criss-cross lines in the corners.
The same one I have decorated in a different way below. these are very simple ones. More complicated designs are drawn which I will share with you in my next posts. One can build upon these basic designs.

Watch out for more....

Rangoli-230

Dhanur Maasam (when Sun enters into Dhanur Raasi or the zodiac sign of Sagittarius) starts from tomorrow. So we start our month long worship of Lord Vishnu also known as Krishna, Kesava, Narayana and many other names. One of the forms of worship is, cleaning our front yards, sprinkling the cow dung mixed in water, and then drawing beautiful Rangolis welcoming the Lord-all this before sun rise. So we get up very early in the morning, take bath and do all this chanting the Lords name.

Some special Rangolis are drawn during this entire month. These Rangolis are drawn with the help of lines or free hand and dots are not used. This is peculiar to Andhra and Tamilnadu states. Here too the Rangolis of Andhra differ from that of TamilNadu as those from Andhra depict or relate to agriculture and are drawn as thanks giving to the Sun who helps the farmers in getting a good crop. These(some) Rangolis are specially drawn during this month and are known as Nela Muggulu. They depict various crops like the paddy ears, pumkins, pathways, different animals and birds etc. Chariot or Ratham Rangolis have a special significance.

You can see the link here where I posted such Rangolis:
http://summersofindia.blogspot.in/search/label/Nela%20Muggulu

These days people unaware of all these things are drawing Rangolis using dots and also because these are easy to draw and can be filled with colours. These traditional Rangolis are on the verge of extinction.

The transit of Sun into the zodiac sign of Makara or Capricorn is celebrated as Makara Sankranti-an agricultural festival. This is a three day festival. One of the main things is drawing of Rangolis.

Ok for now I am posting Rangolis with dots. But I will a also try to post more of our traditional ones too.
15 to 1 straight dots. Join as shown.

Watch out for more new designs.......

Please drop in you suggestions, comments or queries...I would be glad to know your responses......
