On 16th- Friday we are going to celebrate Ratha Saptami. It is believed to be the birthday of Sun or Surya Narayana Murthy. Special Puja is done and Rice pudding or Kheer -rice cooked with Cow milk and jaggery is offered to Sun as Prasadam.

Here are some of my Ratham or chariot rangolis which you can draw on that day in front of your house.

Ratham or Chariot Rangoli

Dots are easy to count. Dots for these type of Rangolis depend upon the shape of Rangoli. We can enlarge it by  adding more dots appropriately keeping the shape intact.

Note: This one is my own original creation.

Most of these designs are my own original creations, which I create by spending much time and after hard work. So please don't post these photos or designs (even if you draw these by your own hand) on your site or blog in any format.

Please link back to my blog. I hope you understand this and respect my request. Thank You.

Please let me know if you have tried it.

Hope you like my creations. If you like my work, please subscribe to my blog, follow me on FB, Insta and like my pages/posts.

Thank you for all the love and support. It means a lot to me.

Rangoli-413

We have reached the end of our month long Rangoli festival season.

Today Sun has  entered Makara or Capricorn- known as Makara Sankranti. So it is auspicious time for next six months.

Tomorrow and day after tomorrow we will be drawing only Ratham or Chariot rangolis.

Hope you all are celebrating this festival with joy and happiness. These are tough times. What is ahead we don not know. We can only pray for better times.

Hope you like this rangoli.

Rangoli-379

Floral Chariot

Hi Friends. Hope you are all busy celebrating the festival ith family and friends.

We have successfully completed our one month Dhanurmasam, offering our prayers and thanksgiving to the Lord Narayana, Sun God and Nature through our Rangolis.

Only two more days to go. Tomorrow we will draw a chariot rangoli coming into our homes, inviting the Lord  and day after tomorrow we will again draw a chariot rangoli going out as a farewell to the Lord.
This is the dot scheme. Wheels and the flag are free hand drawings.

Hope you all enjoyed my Rangolis and tried them. By God's grace, this year I could post the rangolis for the entire month.

Watch out for more posts on embroidery and crafts as this time, I am going to post many of my projects in various stages.

Wishing you all a very Happy Sankranti/Pongal/Lohri and Bihu once again. See you soon.

Rangoli-299

Ratham Or Chariot Rangoli

Here is a chariot or Ratham Rangloi. You can note the dots from the design above. I have drawn it as Navaratna Ratham-the chariot studded with nine types of gems. In the center, I have drawn a chair for the Lord to sit and a lamp too.

Sorry for posting so late. I was so busy today.

This is drawn on Kanuma(third day of festival) and also on Mukkanuma(fourth day). On Kanuma(3rd day), the chariot is drawn entering into the house. It has come to pick up the Lord who has visited us during the festival. On the 4th day, the chariot is drawn going out of the house. That is the Lord is seated in the chariot and is leaving us and going off to his place. A string (a line) is drawn from the chariot on to the road as far as possible, as if it being pulled away. Usually it is linked with the chariot drawn by the neighbor. This way chariots of one is linked to the other.

Hope you like it. Watch out I may post some more tomorrow.

Rangoli-265

Chariot or Ratham Rangoli

This was drawn with the help of dots. You can see the dots in black. Even other wise this can be drawn without dots to.. Try it out and let me know. This can be expanded to get a bigger Rangoli.

I enjoyed creating and bringing these Rangolis to you this season. It was really a challenge to create so many new ones. I stuck to medium to small sized ones. Also I kept them simple and easy. One regret I have is that I could not cover many subjects in my Rangolis like, animals, birds etc. Also I could not bring you the complicated Chain Rangolis or bigger Rangolis.  It takes a lot of time for me to create, develop a Rangoli and draw it neatly, then colour and post.  Many a time even if a small thing goes wrong, I have to abandon it and draw again.

My attempt this year was to post consistently and continuously at least one Rangoli a day. Well I enjoyed it all. Hope you have enjoyed my creations.

Now I am going to take a short break from these Rangolis. I need to concentrate on so many other things, which i have been neglecting of late.

Rangoli-264

Chariot or Ratham Rangoli

Another Ratham(chariot) Rangoli that can be drawn on Kanumu, Mukkanumu or the Ratha Saptami festival.

Place the dots as shown and draw the Rangoli. This can also be expanded to get a bigger Rangoli. The flags are extra.

This is easiest one of the chain or Mellicka Rangoli. I din't want to attempt a too complicated Rangoli. But in future I will post some.  Hope you like this one.

Rangoli-263

Ratham or Chariot Rangoli

Ratham means chariot. This Rangoli is drawn on the day after Makara Sankranti konwn as Kanumu. This chariot is drawn inwards(entering the house) on Kanumu. on the next day known as Mukkanumu, the chariot is drawn leaving the house. Those I have posted previously are here:

Here is one more Rangoli:
Four Chariots. 21 to 1 straight dots....The flag is drawn extra(i.e., no dots )

Ratham Muggulu

Here is one more Ratham or chariot Rangoli. this is a traditional one drawn with the help of the criss-cross lines in the corners.
The same one I have decorated in a different way below. these are very simple ones. More complicated designs are drawn which I will share with you in my next posts. One can build upon these basic designs.

Watch out for more....

Rangoli-171

Ratham Muggulu

These are the traditional Ratham or Chariot Rangolis, drawn on 3rd and 4th day of the Sankranti festival.  on 3rd day the Ratham is drawn towards the house-i.e Lord is entering the house. On fourth day it is drawn going out-send off to Lord.

This is the time(whole month before Sankranti) when the local deities of the temples are brought out of temples, fully decked in fabulous and rich silks, jewellery made of gold and precious gems and decorated with flowers are paraded on chariots enabling all those people who cannot go to temples for various reasons, a glimpse of Lord. They are accompanied by the horses, elephants or other such things owned by the Deities(temples), artists performing various acts and traditional arts, musicians singing, dancers dancing with much pomp and show.

When the deities are paraded every one comes out to pray and catch a glimpse. Ladies come out with offerings of flowers, fruits, coconut,  turmeric, vermilion, beetle leaves and nut powder, some money etc. they light camphor and give aarati to the deities. Every one is then blessed by the priests. It is some thing to be seen. I miss the small town/village life where the festivals used to be celebrated with much enthusiasm.

The 4 lines in orange colour are drawn first and form the base. Then they are joined(green lines).
This is the simplest form-one tier chariot.
This is two tier chariot with 3 cells or rooms
Slightly varied form of joining the lines.

This is 3 tiered one with 6 cells.

Actually in towns and villages where one has huge front yards, huge chariots are drawn with many tiers and cells. The bigger the more appreciation from friends and neighbours. I will try to post more complicated ones and other types of Ratham drawn with dots, free hand etc.

Watch out for more....

Rangoli-93

Chariot or Ratham Muggu-2

Here is one more Ratham Rangoli. This is much simpler one.

                   Ratham Muggu

This has gone a little askew. I was in such a hurry to draw it and post it, so that you can use it for Ratha Sapthami on 10th. Count the dots for each part, as they are different. Then join the dots as shown. This Ratham Muggu or Rangoli can be drawn foe sankranti or Ratha Sapthami.

Ok here it is I have the picture of the dots. I searched and re did the post. This will be easy for you now.
              Ratham Muggu-Dots

Hope you like this. More to come so keep an eye on my blog.....
