Whipped Wheel-1

TAST-2012-11th Week-Whipped Wheel

This weeks challenge announced by Sharon is Whipped Wheel. Here is the link you can visit her page:

Though I knew about the whipped and woven wheels I never had a chance to explore them much. I also don't have much practice. But they both are very easy to stitch. Here are my first attempts. I need lot of doodling before I can think of something creative.

Any way I am using various other stitches (as per TAST rules)in combination with this stitch. Let us see how far I am successful.

I started with straight stitch base. Then Fly stitch and two Straight  Stitches.

Here I completed the whipping and in the second one I added a chain circle.
 This was my second one.

 This is Detached Chain.
This one is again fly stitch.
This one is done on a base of Detached Chain Stitch.
I ended up adding some beads.
This one is Pistil Stitch.
This is the whipped wheel on a frame work pf pistil stitch.

Well with heavy power cuts, severe back pain, I am not able to do much. But I will try and keep you p[posted.

Basque Stitch-1

TAST-2012-Week-29-Basque Stitch

29th Week's challenge announced by Sharon in TAST 2012 is Basque Stitch. Visit her site here for more info:

This is one of the simplest stitches. It is easy to stitch and once we make a few stitches, it is quite rhythmic- something like knitting.  This is one of my favorite stitches as it is easy and there is lot you can do with it.

Here is one of my attempts:
I used this stitch to decorate the neck and pockets of my kurtha. The fabric is pure heavy cotton known as Khadi-that is hand spun. You can see the colour in the below pictures better.
I made a mistake here. I could have followed the curve while stitching at the neck. But somehow I did not. So it is broken. It would have been more beautiful if I had followed the curve with out a break. But if I remember this was my first attempt and that too with out much practise.
A closer look at the stitch. I used tow stitches of Basque -one with yellow and the other with green.
Here is a look at the stitch around the pocket. Here I used single stitches inbetween the green one.
A closer look at the stitch.

This was one of my first attempts long time back-years ago. Now I would love to do a sampler. Let me try it and post it....Keep a watch on my blog.....

TAST-2010

I am so tired and stressed out because of my hectic travels and these hot summers. I am still doodling with Knotted Buttonhole Stitch. and Portuguese Stitch. Yet to start on buttonhole eyelet. I have some pictures of Knotted Buttonhole. But need to sort, and trim them before posting and I am still adding more and more to it.

I know I am lagging behind, but then I cant help it. My niece is also having summer holidays. So she is visiting me when ever I am at home. That means I have to shut my work box or else she insists on trying out the stitches. With all these boy I am not able to make much progress. But I am definitely going to post some by thursday or Friday. Let me see.

I have also to work out TAST-1 Stitches which just started. Boy I am a late Kate. But then I am doing it for fun. No pressure at all.Like Sharon has said even if I miss out some of them, I can still work out at least some stitches. All in all its fun. Thank you Sharon. Its really nice of her to motivate all of us.

Keep an eye on my blog friends.

Bullion Knot Stitch-1

TAST-2012-Week-20-Bullion Knot Stitch

This weeks challenge for TAST 2012 announced by Sharon is Bullion Knot Stitch. Please visit her site for more details.

This is a stitch though easy needs lots of patience and time. I have tried it out before but for making loops and roses. This is actually a very good opportunity for me to work on this stitch. But here it is so very hot. With power cuts and childrens' holidays, I am not able to do much.

This is my first attempt:

You can see the bullion roses with Bullion knot leaves and detached Chain leaves. I have used BK Stitch with Feather and Detached Chain. I am still trying to think out ideas. So watch out....

Beaded Hedebo Edge-1

TAST-2012-Week40-Beaded Hedebo Edge

This week Sharon has given us the Beaded Hedebo Edge as challenge. Visit Sharon's Page here for further details:

I had done a small sampler of this stitch in the previous TAST challenge. The pictures are here:

I need to explore this stitch. With renovation going on at my place, there is dust and chaos everywhere. All our belongings are dumped in one room- books, clothes -everything. I think it will take another week or two to finish the renovation. After that I have to clean my place and arrange all our things in their proper places. This may take another two to three weeks.

So with all this going on, I am not able to do much of my embroidery or any other craft. I am also afraid that my samplers and WIP might have been soiled because of the dust, though I have packed them in plastic covers. Any ways, i will try to work the sampler somehow. Can't wait that long. I already have so much to catch up with.

Running Stitch-1

TAST-2012-10th Week-Running Stitch

This week Sharon has announced the Running Stitch for the challenge. You can visit Sharon's Page for TAST-2012 here:

Running Stitch is very simple and easy but also one of the stitches which can be combined with many other stitches easily. The beauty of this stitch is that one can create so many patterns out of this stitch.

The Running Stitch is used in India in the most famous traditional embroidery of Kanta. In fact Kanta work is one of my favorite work. I have embroidered many saris, blouses, kurthas in this work for the simple reason that it is very easy to work and one can finish off early. There is a rythum in this stitch/work which when achieved is very soothing on ones nerves like knitting. The beauty of well aligned stitches is the high light of this work.

In Kanta work a simple running stitch is used in many ways and combinations. Motifs like, flowers, animals, human figures and the objects found in every day lives of the simple village folk, geometrical patterns are worked.

Running stitch is also used in Embroideries from Japan of Kogin and Shashiko which are more geometrical.

Here is one of my creations in Kanta which I designed and embroidered with the help of my mother and sister long time back:

This is a mustard colour fine cotton sari from Venkatagiri with green and gold borders. Me and my sister both bought two of the same saris. The design in the borders are different but the peacock motifs on the pallu of both saris are same. I used only three colours-black red and green.
These are the borders on top and bottom of the sari.
A closer look at the border.
These are the Peacocks on Pallu.

I couldn't photograph my sis's sari. I will try to get one. But do keep an eye for more on this stitch as incidentally I have been working on this stitch building up a sampler.

Well I have not been feeling well. Though I have thought about a lot of variations and experiments with the stitch, I could not do most of them. Actually I could hardly sit for long, let alone able to stitch. So here are a few of my doodles with the stitch:
1. Herringbone 2. Stitches worked apart 3. Stitches worked closely 4. Double Herringbone 5. Criss-cross Herringbone
6. Closed Herringbone or Double Back Stitch  7. Triple Herringbone  8. Tied Herringbone with Straight Stitch  9. Threaded Herringbone
 9. Tied Herringbone- with + stitch  10. Herringbone with French knots 11. Closed Herringbone with seed beads
 12.  Herringbone with Beads
 13. Herringbone with Beads  14. Herringbone with Feather Stitch
14. Herringbone with Buttonhole Stitch 15. Herringbone-patterned Stitches

I have made a note of lot many other ideas, but may be I will try it later. Stitch 14 and 15 were extra challenge-combination of Herringbone with previous stitches of TAST 2012. Keep watching for more....

Eagerly waiting for the new challenge tomorrow....
