Reorganising my Blogs....

Of late I don't have much time on my hands to pursue all my favorite things. This blog is one of them. I have lots to share with you but the major problem is time. So I am not able to take proper pictures of my work and write my posts. One more problem is the erratic power supply. In monsoon season it is quite common that power supply is stopped when there are heavy rains or strong winds. With high surges in power, I am worried about all my gadgets. So posting of tutorials and my work is taking time.

I knew that I needed to organise my blog properly as it looked very cluttered and all of you are finding it difficult to browse through my blog. But again lack of time was the reason I could not take it up till now.

I was actually confused as to where to start or what to do so that you all find it easy to browse and still am. As you can see I have already started reorganising. But it will take some time for me. I am not much tech savvy and also am slow. So i can do it slowly and steadily. So bear with me please.

I would like to thank Ms Sony Patel, who took time to point out certain things, which gave me courage to start this reorganising. Thanks a lot Sonyji, your suggestions have helped me a lot.

I would like to have your suggestions in this regard as to what and how I can do to re-organise. This will really help me. So please drop in your suggestions.

Thanks a lot to all my friends who visit my blog and take time to leave comments and suggestions which all help me a lot.

Baby Mahi-It happens only in India...

UPDATE:

Baby Mahi passed away within few hours of her falling into the well due to lack of oxygen. Her body was recovered after 90 hours of very tiring rescue operation.

My heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family. May God give them strength to face such a tragic situation. May her soul rest in peace.

My salute to the army team who worked relentlessly in the rescue operation.

I am really not out of the shock yet. Yes the chances of baby's survival were very remote. She fell into the well on Wednesday and we came to know of it on Thursday. By then we knew how difficult it is for some one to survive without oxygen, food and water. As the rescue continued hour after hour, the chance of survival was becoming dimmer and dimmer.

But then being humans, we have that little spark some where in our heart called hope.

Now when it comes to the responsibility of such a tragic incident, everyone was after the government or the administration. Yes, they do have responsibility.

But what about, the baby's mother and father, what about all those who were living there? Were they not aware that there was an abandoned bore well there? How can they allow their children to play in such an area?

Are we all citizens not responsible for such things? Can we not take care of our homes, our children and neighborhood at least? Is it enough to think that it is someone else's responsibility and keep quite? Ultimately isn't it us who are suffering?

Especially children. They don't have parks or play grounds to play. They don't have time from their studies and other activities to play. They don't have safe environment. The child abuse is on the rise. Even if the children survive all these, there is still the threat of parents forcing them to become an engineer or a doctor or some other thing even against the wishes of the children.

With the big joint families fast disappearing and the small nuclear families on the rise where both parents work, the children are fast losing the security and the feeling of safety in the family. The parents are not able to cope up their own stress. They still try to give their children the best. But is it enough to provide the children with only material benefits? No doubt it is a difficult choice for the parents with poor and lower middle class backgrounds.

Now there are no grandparents or aunts and uncles to take care or interact with them daily. With whom do the children share their insecurities or fears?

In olden days children felt safe and secure as they had elder cousins, aunts, uncles and grand parents to look after them. The parents never had to bother in most of the cases. The grand parents and other elders in the family played a major role in teaching them, the ethics, moral values and life skills so that they grew up to be happy and able humans. They could adapt themselves to any situations. OK! big families have their own problems, but in times of difficulties one always had the emotional security.

Now most of the the children brought up in small families are growing up as insecure, selfish and stubborn individuals, very reluctant to adjust or share with others.

So where are we headed to?  Can we still sing the song....It happens only in India? May be all such things happen in only in India???????

So what is the solution?....How do we provide our children with a safe and happy environment?.....

Please Pray

In Manesar town near Gurgaon, 4 year old little girl named Mahi has fell into 70 feet deep bore well at around 11 pm on Wednesday. Even after 45 hours, the child is struggling for survival and has not yet been rescued.

How shocking and difficult it is for the child. I just can't even dare to imagine it. We are all praying for her safe rescue. Please! All those who are reading this post do join us and pray for her safety. Ask, your friends, relatives who ever it is to pray for the child.

Let us just hope that she is rescued safely. Miracles do happen.....

Welcome Showers

At last, it rained yesterday after such a long summer and that too such hot days. We all- especially my plants were eagerly waiting for the Monsoon to arrive. It teased us for two weeks but then yesterday when it rained what a heavy downpour.

It is now cool and wet. I lost some of my precious plants to the heat this summer. Water scarcity and continuous high temperatures were the reasons. This year we did not have those showers which we have in between the hot spells. Thank God. Now I will wait for a few more showers and then take up gardening. I am already on the job of cleaning and getting ready for new plantations.

But these down pours do affect our power supply. Entire week end the power supply was erratic and with huge fluctuations. I could not dare to touch any appliance for the fear of the surges in the power. Yesterday almost entire evening and night, we had to manage with candles.

Thats how i could not post anything. well got to go, catch up my sleep which i missed last night....keep watching my blog ....

I am Back

Hi there. I am back after a wonderful rejuvenating trip. Though I travel so much, this is an outing with my family and friends after a very long time. It went well though I missed out some of my plans but I have so much to share with you all. I did not feel like coming back from those lovely places.

Back to my home where the summer is at its peak-this year temperature at its high continuously with out even a drop of rain in between. Some of my plants died due to heat and some were on the verge. The moment I entered my home the first thing I did was to water the plants. This is when I don't like to go away from my home. Well I need to work on my garden this monsoon-it needs a lot of work. We are just waiting for the first few showers.

On my work front...so much has piled up in just a week's time..I just don't understand  how it gets piled up easily. I need to work hard now to clear off all that. But more and more work keeps coming. This is a real hectic time for us at our work place. I envy all those who are out still, enjoying the summer holidays.

Well I missed out last week's TAST challenge. Hope I can do next one....

In this heat I don't feel like doing anything...Just completing my daily chores apart from my work is really taxing...I hope and pray that Monsoon comes here soon....

Out on a trip....

Hi ! I have not been able to post much for the past  few days. I was very busy on my work front. At last I am free to go out with my family and friends for a short trip tomorrow..I am excited like my little niece...

We are all going to Kerala-God's own country...and enjoy- some beautiful beaches, hill stations, sanctuaries, stay on a house boat, visit some tea and spice plantations, paddy fields, and perhaps lots of shopping... I hope that we can squeeze in as much sight seeing as possible...I just want to freeze all those moments of joy in my camera so that I can share with you.....

The colours- predominantly green and perhaps the rainbow colours if I can visit the spice bazaar which I have been thinking of since long time....smell of fresh air, free from pollution, salty breeze from the seas....pungent smell of the spices.... well just thinking of all that is making me so excited...with so many of us...I don't know whether we can do all that is planned...But the most important thing is being together and spending time, having fun.....

So I am off now to pack the last few things...my camera, journal to write and a sketch pad if possible...away from all this hustle bustle to the beautiful, scenic places....Be with you the moment I get back....

Been Away

Hi friends. Hope you are all doing well. I have been away for sometime now, trotting across the country. That's why you have not seen work or heard from me till now.

Who says air travel is the best? May be it time saving, especially for those who are busy and don 't have time but I find it boring and tiring. But then many a times I am forced to do that as my work involves me to travel to distant places at short notices. Hopping in and out of air planes is not my definition of being successful in life.

I have always been fascinated with trains and love journeys by train. I feel I can have a glimpse of the country, its people and their culture both inside and outside the train. I get a chance to acquaint with people of different regions, cultures, lifestyles, languages. India being such a vast country with different regions, cultures and so much diversity, I don.t think one can know even a little in an entire life time. Every time I get something new to learn. So I never miss an opportunity to travel by train.

Looking out of the window from train is so fascinating. I loved it as a child and still love it. Perhaps there is child in every person?
Water bodies surrounded by greenery, water lilies, birds busy in and around the water, reflection of clear blue skies in the water...Isn't it beautiful?
The rustic country side of India, cattle and farm equipment in the yard, chicken trotting around, women sitting in the front of their homes, chatting but working without wasting any time....
Cattle grazing in the fileds after the harvest....
The small huts serving tea and snacks on the edge of roads near villages....
Green fields, swaying palms, men and women working in the fields singing merrily (one cannot hear but feel it from a distance) on a clear sunny day...
Mountains and plains, green vegetation and plated crops, rejoicing in the wet monsoon showers...

Well for me the romance never ends. I have seen it all-many facets of my beautiful country, changing seasons, peoples and their lives at different times of the day or in different seasons, young smiling faces waving their hands as the train passes by-all from the window of a train.

Still I want more, I want to travel again.......in a train if I can.....singing this beautiful song..

Well.....

Hello There

Hello friends. I was not able to post much these few days. My sis and my niece were down with viral fever. They had high temperatures and needed looking after. Even I was not feeling well with juggling home, work and looking after them. I feel so tired by the time I have some time for my self.

So I missed out so much. No Rangoli for Ratha Saptami. I also missed out 4th week of TAST. I did start doodling but could not do much. However I have started with this weeks stitch. Let us see whether I can do some thing.

I have not yet recovered fully...Hope to recover soon...

With Republic day and Ratha Saptami approaching, I need to create some Rangolis for the occasion. I love creating new ones for each occasion....I don't have much time for my other projects. they are unfinished and need to be finished..May be this week end I can do something....

Time for ......

Hi friends. Finally our biggest festival Sankranti is over. It had been very hectic for the past few weeks. Starting from Dushera, festivals and other religious occasions come one after the other. Dushera Diwali, New Year, Dhanurmaasam where one has to observe all rituals including the drawing of Rangoli for a month finally our Sankranti festival. This means lot of preparations at home, cooking huge quantities, spring cleaning our homes and surroundings, refurnishing and refurbishing, visiting temples..

To top it all we have a steady flow of friends and relatives dropping in at all times, going out with them to visit places and temples, picnicking, shopping. It is fun to bond with them, some times with those we have not seen for long. We also have some marriages and other such functions during this period. If it involves our close friends or relatives, we have more work on our hands.

But juggling, all this and work is a real headache and tiring. Everything goes haywire. And the icing of the cake is that children have holidays during this period. They keep on playing with their friends, don't bother to study, or complete their assignments and projects and keep barging in for snacks and drinks..Phew

Now every one is back to their schedule. At least that gives us some breathing space. I feel tired and need to rest. Funny but true that holidays are very tiring and we don't get any rest.

Till now I had to concentrate on Rangoli designs. I am happy that I could create some very beautiful ones and have noted down so many ideas for new ones. But I need a break from them.

I now need to concentrate on other things. TAST 2012 has already begun. I started some doodling on the stitches but could not come out with much. Now I need to strictly follow the challenge.

I will also post Mirror Work Tutorials. I just din't have time for anything else during these past weeks. I am also planing to finish my on hand projects and also have some new ones lined up...let us see... by this week end I will organise everything properly.

Keep an eye on my blog .....

Season Of Jujube

Jujube or the Indian Dates are hit with children and women in India. They have a sweet and sour taste. Rich in Vitamin C and useful medicinally, they have religious significance too. Read about the fruit and also recipes here...

Watch Out

What a relief. It is really nice to finish off the project I was struggling day and night  for the past four-five months. Thank God finally it is almost over. By the end of the month I will be completely free. But I am now relatively free. It is a great feeling after such a strenuous work to be free.

I need to rest a lot as I strained myself and was almost on the edge of collapsing. Looking back I don't know how I pulled on. Everything went wrong from the beginning and it was a huge mess. I had to grit my teeth and somehow pull on by sheer will power. Many a time I thought of quitting. But leaving the battle field mid way is not my style. All this had affected me and my health very badly. I could not eat properly or even sleep. Lots of travelling, meeting dead lines...phew! It was a horrible night mare like situation. I feel so burnt out and very tired.

Well all it matters is now I am slowly recovering and gaining my strength bit by bit. I will take it easy in the next few weeks. So friends, I have already picked up my needles, tools or what ever and got back to my passion of Arts N Crafts Projects. I may not be able to do much in the first few days as I still don't have much strength to sit for long or continuously. But my mind is full of creative ideas. I need to note them down and give them shape one by one. Lots of pending projects to finish too as usual.. :)  :)

Well this yellow hibiscus cheered me up this morning. You too enjoy it....

With Diwali the festival of Lights fast approaching, I need to do so much..So be ready for, I am going to share my work with you.....

Showers Of Blessing

We have to regularly check our stock of provisions in rainy season. Due to heavy moisture in he air, they get spoiled easily. so we clean them and keep it in the sun. My mother placed some Jowar (Sorghum)which I use for making rotis (bread) as well as for feeding birds. But she forgot to bring it inside in the evening. It rained heavily during next two days. None of us remembered the Jowar. On the third day I saw the container full of water. So I drained them and threw it in a corner in my garden thinking that birds may eat it. But next day I was happy to see this:
They started germinating. And then the next day:
Most of the seeds have germinated.
See the seeds are still clinging to the leaves. You can also see the rain drops glistening ... How such a big plant is stored inside such a small seed....Isn't God great? If this is not a miracle then what is?

I remember the popular hymn. I love this hymn a lot.

There shall be showers of blessing
This is a promise of love
There shall be seasons refreshing
Sent from the Saviour above.

Showers of blessing
Showers of blessing we need
Mercy drops round us are falling
But for the showers we plead.

There shall be showers of blessing
Precious reviving again
Over the hills and the valleys
Sound of abandons of rain.

Showers of blessing
Showers of blessing we need
Mercy drops round us are falling
But for the showers we plead.

There shall be showers of blessing
Oh, but today they might fall
Now as to God reconfesing
Now as on Jesus we call.

Showers of blessing
Showers of blessing we need
Mercy drops round us are falling
But for the showers we plead...

Well have a good day.....

HI

I have been busy for the past three weeks or so with my mom's surgery. She was recovering but again had some infection. Any way now she is recovering but needs to be looked after another eight weeks or so to fully recover. I have to take care of her take her for her check ups and all. With the temperatures reaching unbearable levels, I just am barely coping with all my responsibilities.

I could not post much. I am sorry that I could not post my Free Pattern this week. I will try to post if possible because all my stuff is in a muddle and I need to sort out.

Hmm by the way, these days I have a Tom cat- a stray gold coloured one who has made my  home as his adda (hangout). he tries his best to steal a drink of milk or curd. But till now we have out witted him. He is always snoozing around. So lazy, I don't know when he gets to have his food.
His favourite place is under the diwan (a wooden cot) in my back yard. Its cool there because of the shade of the trees. Hmmm he is lucky. I wish I could also sleep like him  with out a care in the world.

I have my hands full right now with my mom. but still I am trying out various new crafts. Keep a watch on my blog... I will post some soon....

My Posts

I lost four of my posts-two published and two scheduled for publishing. Today morning I just could not sign in. first I thought something was wrong with my blog. But then came the message that some problems were noticed during the scheduled maintenance . So the services were placed on read only mode.

Anyway now the problem is fixed. But only thing is some of our posts made after 11th May have disappeared. I lost four of mine-two published and two to be published. Anyway they are working on it.

Thanks a lot to the team of Blogger, who have worked for restoring our blogs. I know they have worked very hard to fix up the problem and restore the services. Thanks a lot.

I just hope we get back back our lost posts back. I am going to wait and see. No point in posting the same again, if it is going to be restored.

You can read about all that here, if you have missed it:

Salute to All the Mothers

Mother, Mama, Mom, Matru(Sanskrit), Maa/Maata(Hindi), Amma(Telugu), Maman(French), Mutter(Germany) ..in any language the love, the sacrifice, kindness, patience and many such qualities associated with the image of mother is common. The moment one says "Mother" our hearts are filled with joy, happiness and love.

For a mother-giving birth to a child is an ordeal but she still loves it. Carrying the child in the womb, nurturing it carefully with love, bringing it out into the world and then again taking care of the child  to mould it into a worthy human being is a very difficult task. It is said that every time a mother delivers a child, it is like rebirth for her. Despite the advancement in medical sciences, giving birth is still not easy.

Mothers are always there for us whether 4 or 40 years-we need them always. When we are happy, we want to share with her. When we are sad or frustrated, we cry on her shoulder. Our triumphs or losses, our laughs and tears we share with her. She is there to pat on our backs, motivate when we feel low. She is our first friend, philosopher and guide-in total the God Himself(Herself?). Many say that God created mother as a representative of Himself. I feel it is true. No matter how much we praise our mothers it is far less. So is it any wonder Mothers are loved and worshipped?

How It started:

Mother Goddess was worshipped since ancient times dating back to around 6000BC specially in the Asian region. This is quiet evident from the Mohenjodaro where terracota forms of Mother Goddess were found. Actually Mother Goddess-(wife of Pashupathinath) known as Parvathi, Amba or Durga generally referred to as Maa or Maata are still worshipped in India even today. She is known as "Ammala ganna Amma"-that is the Great Mother who gave birth to all the mothers.

The Greeks imported this culture as Cybele-the mother of Greek Gods. Cybelle was identified with Rhea and worshipped or honoured. Ancient Romans celebrated Matronalia in honour of Juno for fertility of married women. Husbands gave gifts and money to their wives on this occasion and prayed for them. However,Romans adopted the Greek festival of worshipping Mother Goddess to absorb the Greeks into their culture but introduced their own customs.

Later on the festival of Mothering Sunday- celebrated on 4th Sunday of Lent by Christians in
the honour of Mother Virgin Mary came into existence.Children or youngster who were working in the houses of the rich were given a day off on that date so they could visit their families or return to their "Mother" church. They  would pick wild flowers along the way to place them in the church or to give them to their mothers as gifts.  This became popular as a tradition of giving gifts to mothers. However these celebrations are not the basis for the celebrations in our times.

The present Mother's Day celebrations has some antecedents. The women's peace groups of USA had a major role in this. The meetings of mothers of the sons who fought and died on opposite sides of the American Civil War may be the first attempt. Several such local meetings took place in 1870s and 1880s.

In 1870, Julia Ward Home of US  made a  Mothers Day Proclamation as she believed that women had a responsibility to shape the societies at the political level too. This moment died away after a decade or so.

In 1868 Ann Maria Jarvis founded a Committee to establish a "Mother's Friendship Day" for reuniting the families which were divided due to the American Civil War.  She wanted to make it an annual memorial for mothers. But she died in 1905. Her daughter Anna Jarvis continued this. She campaigned for a national  holiday on Mother's day in US and later on internationally.

On May 8th 1914 a law was passed by the US Congress designating second Sunday of May as mother's Day and the then President Woodrow Wilson issued the proclamation on 9th May.

We Indians were always taught Matru Devo Bhava meaning Mother is God. She comes first, then father, teacher and then guest. That is the order of preference. In fact our scriptures say that it is the mother who shows or introduces the child its father. Till then the child is unaware or its father. So we are taught to respect our parents from an early age.

We had joint families and teaching of morals, ethics and values became easy. But now our younger generations are weaning away from our traditions and values. it is really very sad to see many children neglecting their parents in their old ages. I feel it is not enough to just remember your mother on mothers day.It should be followed through out. In fact if we follow our ancient scriptures, traditions and customs, we can take good care of our parents. What our parents need in their old age is our love, care. they feel cherished if we can spend some time with them frequently. They don't need the cards or presents we give them. They need us.

So on Mothers Day we should all pledge that we will take care of our parents. They need this after all they have done for us. In that way I am lucky to have my mom with me so that I can take proper care of her through out....

Wishing All A Very Happy Mother's Day and My Salute to my Mother, my Grand Mothers as well as all the Mothers and Grand Mothers...for their love care, sacrifices in moulding us.

Mom's Surgery

I have been busy with my Mom's eye surgery. One of her eye has been operated and she is OK. How far her vision improves is yet to be seen. But the Doctor felt that it was successful and her vision will be much better than what she had though may not be total. We are keeping our fingers crossed and praying for her speedy recovery.

So I was busy and tensed up with her surgery. I had no time to post. Since her surgery we had to literally stay around the clock watching her lest she touched her bandaged eye. Now she is recovering. What I love about my mom is she never wants to be dependant on others. Even when she is ill, she tries her level best to take care of herself. Since she cannot watch TV or read and her room has to be kept in dark/very diffused light, I sit by her side, talking to her, reading from newspapers or her favourite books. She has to be careful for a month or so.

Any way we are all happy that she is recovering fast. I hope she recovers quickly and we can get her second eye also operated as early as possible.

Please include her in your prayers for speedy recovery.

With my mom on bed, I don't feel like doing anything at all. But now that she is recovering, I think I can take up my crafts when I am by her side. I may not be able to post much but will try.
