Design A Day-Day 3

Here I am with another small pattern. Today Day-3.This is a very simple and easy pattern.

I started with this pattern drawing it directly on the cloth.
These were the 6 strand cotton floss I used for embroidery. I used only 3 strands.
Stitches I used were button hole pin wheel, buttonhole, chain, detached chain, stem stitches.
Here is the pattern for you slightly changed.

These are the designs created by me. You can use them for your personal use only. If you use them, please send me the pictures which I will post on my blog or if you post them on your blog or site please link to the original pattern here on my blog. Please Don't Post the patterns on your site or blog. I hope you will respect my request.

Hope you like it. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, either leave a comment on my post or mail me.

Design A Day-Day 2

Day 2-here I am. I love Roses. So I tried one in a different way.

I drew the pattern directly on the cloth on one of the corners. In fact all my of patterns of these projects, I first drew them on the cloth, finished embroidery and then recorded my pattern on paper. Sometimes, I made changes in the pattern or the threads used or added more stitches as I was embroidering. I love this kind of freedom-that is starting with out any set pattern or colour scheme and improving upon as I progress. Well results may not always be good but this is a challenge which thrills me.

So the pattern may be  slightly different from the one I stitched.
These were the two variegated cotton floss, 6 strand which I used.
I used, chain, stem and detached chain and all 6 strands of the floss.
Here is the pattern for you. I think this will look good on blouses, children s' wear, Kurtis, pillow/cushion covers, and many more. You can use different stitches.

These designs were created by me. You can use them for your personal use only. If you use them, please send me the pictures of your work, which I will post on my blog or if you post them on your blog or site please link to the original pattern here on my blog and let me know about it. I would appreciate that very much. If you want to share them please attribute the work to me, with link back to this blog. Do not re-publish. Please Don't Post the patterns on your site or blog. I hope you will respect my request.

Design a Day- Day 1

So Day-1: In order to use some of the left over threads, I started embroidering small white hand kerchiefs

I started with this design directly drawn by hand on the cloth.

I used these three colours,  6 strand cotton threads. Used 3 strands for embroidery.
 This is the final product.

Stitches used were stem stitch, chain stitch, detached chain and star stitch. Here is the pattern.

Hope you like it. This pattern can be used on blouses, children's clothes, table cloths too.

Watch out for more....

Update: I have used 3 strands of thread through out and the design was embroidered in one of the corners of the handkerchief. If you have any questions, you can mail me.

Left Over Threads

Friends, those who sew and embroider or crochet or knit what ever we do with threads, yarns and floss, we all face one problem. Over a period of time we have lots of left over threads of different colours, weights and so on. So what to do with them?

What I do is wrap them on unused visiting cards, or sari fall cards, or the empty spools left over after using the threads or just wind them up and tie them. I use them for:

1. Small projects like embroidering handkerchiefs or napkins etc
2. For making jewellery, friendship bracelets
3. For making tassels and other such projects
4. For doodling my ideas on embroidery for creating any new projects
5. For remembering and practising old stitches till I get them perfectly right
6. For learning new stitches
7. For getting the rhythm of a stitch or stitches before I take up my actual project
8. For colour reference- I keep small quantities with numbers noted on the cards
9. I give them away to my friends who have run out of some particular colour(s), who are beginners or learn stitches from me.

But here is one site where the author Renee Frank has given some very good ideas:

I specially like the one for the birds. Just go through it. I think it is very good article. Do you have any ideas? Please share with us on this blog.
