Red Crystal Necklaces

Here are two pieces I made from Red Crystals. For that you need:

Red Crystals
Gold plated discs
Gold plated nuts( small thin discs)
Clasps (I have used chain and hook type)
Pendant
String or wire

These crystals are sold string wise either 60 or 100 per string and cost depends on this. This is smallest size and known as cut crystals as the surface has many facets. The light falling on these facets is reflected and gives it a shine. The difference between these crystals and ordinary (uncut ones) is that these look more like made of some precious stones due to their shiny surfaces. There also bigger ones and also transparent and opaque. These are available in rainbow colours. So choose according to your taste and colour preference.

The first one is very simple and does not have any pendant.
I have first stringed a gold disc then red crystal again gold disc so on till I finished with the crystals. Then I have finished off by adding the clasp.

You can add the discs one for every two or three or five beads or more than one gold disc between the beads depending on your taste and choice. it is better to string in a few crystals and gold discs in different combinations to see which one you like and then finally go for the design. You can also use gold beads, stone studded discs or beads according to your choice.

The second one I have added a simple pendant. Also I have used gold plated nuts between the beads. Near the pendant and in between I used five discs to give it a bit of rich look. Then I finished it off with adding the clasp.

Both these designs I have kept simple so that it can be worn daily or even to work. So try it out...

Lakshmi Locket Necklace

Another Lakshmi locket necklace. This time a bit different one.

I had a few sand stone beads. First I wanted to make a bracelet matching my necklaces of sand stones I made previously. But again I created this necklace. I used gold coloured beads (medium and very small) and five Lakshmi lockets. Previously I used a round shaped lockets. Now I have used elongated ones.

I had to use more gold beads in the end to give it length, as I ran out of sand stone beads. The length of this necklace is a bit bigger than choker( I have not measured it)-that is it nestles at the base of the neck. I feel that this way, the lockets can be shown off well. I am planning to create some matching ear rings to go with. Let me see. I am busy this fortnight and may not get time to indulge in my hobbies till month end.

So please do leave your comments on this creation of mine....Keep a watch more to come....

Black Beads Necklace

Black beads are worn by all married women in India. Some wear it in long chains made of gold and some short. There are different designs and lengths made in gold.

I have been wanting to create some designs in black beads for a long time. I have bought materials also but din't find time. Then I thought of creating one and gifting it my sister as she loves to wear different creations in black beads.

I have attempted a black bead creation with Lakshmi dollar in the center. This is of medium length. I made it as a gift to my sister for Varalakshmi Pooja.

I have used black beads with some gold plated beads in between and a Lakshmi locket in the center.
I first put it on Goddess VaraLakshmi for the Sravana Sukravaara pooja and then gifted it to my sister.

Please do write your comments and suggestions about my creation.

Glass Beads Necklaces

Here are two necklaces I made from Glass Beads.
I could get three colours-green, orange mixed brown and dark purple.
I have used only two gold plated discs in between the beads with both necklaces. The length is medium.
I love glass beads and may be I should have added pendants too. But at that time I din't have any thing to match these beads. I don't much like any thing especially jewellery or clothes to be loud. So I made it very simple.

Hope you like them......

Sea Shell Ear Rings

Here is my first attempt at ear Rings. I have used sea shell pieces and seed pearls. I have just kept it simple so that it would look delicate.
I have used gold coloured rings, hoop and wire. But it is not looking like that in the picture.

I need to do lot of work on these. Though so many ideas are flashing through my mind, I am not able to jot them down in my work book, leave alone create the design. Well once I am through with my project at my work place, I can concentrate on this.

What do you think of the ear rings?

Coral Pink Beads

I am making a lot of jewellery these days, preparing for an exhibition. But even before that my pieces are being sold away. My designs are unique and I have very limited numbers and the cost is affordable. I am not interested in making too much profit. Just a little over cost of materials is enough for me. I am selling because I want to create more and I cannot keep all those with myself. May be that is the reason for the sales.Well I am happy...

Here is one coral pink beads I am working on. The beads are not coral but artificial. I have a rose pendant and ear studs set for that. I am half way through.
So keep a watch on coming posts where I will be posting my final product.

Oh by the way keep a watch for a GIVE AWAY CONTEST...I am going to give away some of my Jewellery soon.....

LAC JEWELLERY

Lac Jewellery

Lac has been used since ancient times in India, in making jewellery as a cosmetic, for dyeing wool, silk, leather and also in medicines.

Lac is the red resinous secretion of some insects. These are very tiny plant sucking insects, which attach themselves in millions of numbers on branches of trees. Their secretion is red in colour and coated on the branches of the host trees. These branches  are cut and harvested as stick lac.
The stick lac is crushed and sieved to remove impurities. Then it is washed a number of times to remove insect parts and other soluble material. The resulting product is known as seedlac.  It is used in  violins and varnishes etc.  Seedlac is again  processed into shellac by removing the impurities it still contains.
In India Lac is produced in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, West Bengal, Maharastra
Lacis used for making jewellery, key chains, framing mirrors, boxes, pens, pen stands, table tops, coasters, napkin holders and many more.
Lac Jewellery is hand made and the entire family is involved in its manufacturing process. It is made mainly in Rajasthan and to some extent in Hyderabad too.

Here is the process of making of this jewellery:
Kundans, stones, beads and mirrors etc are also used to enhance the beauty of the pieces besides enamel paints. The price depends upon the craftsmanship, design and how delicately the piece is made. There are no doubt pieces to suit every ones pocket. Its just that we need to strike a balance between the price and the quality.

I love collecting them. here is a glimpse...
These are ear studs available in two sizes-studded with stones. Below are the danglers. All are available in a variety of colours.

These are light weight too. Some more next time...keep a watch....

Lakshmi Locket Jewellery

This  is the month of Ashadha as per our Calendar. The coming month is Sravana-an auspicious month for us, specially for ladies. This is the time when we worship Goddess Lakshmi and Mangala Gauri for wealth, prosperity and family well being. Ladies buy new clothes, jewellery etc. Newly married women start their "Vratha" or Pooja (special Rituals) which they have to do for 5 years.

So keeping that in view I am designing some unique pieces. Here is one of them;

This is made of sand stone beads, small gold(plated) beads and Lakshmi lockets(gold plated). I have used wire so that the necklace stays stiff and also if you see closely I have looped at the ends. I have used dori or thread at the back with rings, which can  be adjusted to suit the size of our necks. The sand stone necklace can be removed and some other creation can be added to the same dori to match your dress. I am making such changeable jewellery.

The images of  Laksmi embossed on thin gold coins  are actually traditional gold jewellery used in "KaasulaPeru". Since we cannot afford gold now, I think this is affordable.

So invite Goddess Lakshmi this Sravana Masa with this new creation.

Please do leave your comments, suggestions. and feel free to ask questions.....

Red Beads Necklace

These days I am so tied up with my work and preparing for my exhibition, that I am not having time to post.
Here is one necklace made from red beads.

These are China Beads available in red, green, light blue, black and coral colours. I have used gold beads which are hollow and look like filigree beads. The pendant is tear drop shaped glass one. These pendants are available in many sizes and shapes and also in glass, crystal and fibre(?), pearls etc.

Oh! By the way some of my friends have asked about where to get the pendants, beads etc. These are available in shops that sell jewellery or material for jewellery and also shops where they sell novelties or accessories for ladies like ear studs, danglers, pendants, brooches, bangles etc. Pendant sets that is with matching ear rings are also available. They can be worn with gold or silver chains or with bead chains.

Oh I am experimenting with different materials for making jewellery. Do keep a watch on my blog for some different designs....

Green and Orange Beads

Here is one simple design of Green and Orange Crystals. Many of us have the classic combination of Green and Orange Silk Saris or even in other materials such as cotton.

This is with Pendant.
This one is without pendant.

Both can be worn with dresses or saris with matching ear studs or danglers. I kept the designs simple as these can be worn any where any time. The gold beads in between add a touch of lustre and look grand. I am planning to make ear studs and danglers. But I need to practise a bit first.

More to come...So keep a watch....

Jewellery-Work in Progress

I have been busy with creating jewellery. I never could imagine that I could sell them. It was only a hobby for-creating something artistic and new but affordable. Well some of my friends have found them very beautiful and so here I am very busy with creating for them.

I have made some but before I could photograph them, they are sold. Actually my entire personal collection which I was very sad to part with have been sold. Well but I am happy. Because for an artist this gives more scope for creating new designs. After all I cannot afford to hoard everything for my self :) :)..

At present I am working with these beads...
These are CZs available in different colours but costly-much much cheaper than diamonds. But the cut, the shine and the beauty of the beads -the cost is worth. Once we invest, they last for a long time.
These are again CZs-tear drops.

These are pink coral beads. I am also working with many other beads and stones. I will post the finished pieces....so keep a watch...

Pendant Sets

Once again I am sharing with you one more pendant and ear ring set.
This is once again, gold plated with little Meenakari work, white stones and colour beads. This can be worn on gold chain or fashionable string or with beads. May be I will use this with one of my beads.

This can be worn with any dress or sari-ideal for office wear or party wear. This is not too heavy jewellery so can be worn on simple dresses/saris, should  be teamed with some good gold or multicoloured bangles. If one can get those Meenakari Bangles or Bracelets, well that is excellent.

Any way this reminds me that I have lot of pending projects in jewellery. I also have to organise all my jewellery pieces. I have been simply dumping every thing I used in a box. Now I need to sort and store them properly.

Well bye for now...Keep a watch on my blog for more latest fashions in indian jewellery.

Brooches

I love Brooches as they can be used on saris or dresses. I collect them in a variety of shapes and materials. here is the latest additions to my collection:

I loved these butterflies on sight-light and dark blue with stones. This will match my other accessories in blue.
             Floral Wreath in Pink
This flower and leaf wreath, in pink and red I picked up to match my accessories in pink or red.

Sometimes I just pick up a piece for no reason at all. Later on I get other accessories to match them by chance or by luck. But then I have to wait patiently...:)..Shopping on budget and being very choosy to pick up very unique and classy ones is not easy...

Indian Jewellery-Kids Special

Latest In Fashion

We women love jewellery. Don't we? Some love more, some less but in general whether we buy them regularly or not, we do admire, window shop, discretely check what others are wearing or refer to women's magazines for latest trends.

Indian women wear a lot of jewellery. It is a tradition with us since ancient times. From the moment a girl child is born, buying jewellery for her begins. Moms buy jewellery keeping in view their daughters. Relatives and friends also try to gift jewellery. This may be because in olden days (even now), gold and silver or gems in the form of jewellery were the best investments for women in case of emergencies, for dowry as it is a tradition to give dowry when a girl is married. usually the property of mother (women) passes off to her daughters.

ANY WAY, when I go shopping, I shop for my mom, my sis and my niece apart from my self. My mom wears only gold jewellery. But we sisters and my niece can  wear contemporary ones. So I am always on the look out for variety and new fashions. Many of my friends too ask me to help them too.

Last time I went shopping, I picked up some pieces for my niece too. She can wear these only in holidays as her school does not allow her to wear them. Moreover these days it is not safe for the children to wear real gold jewellery or even fake ones which look like gold. I am going to post some at a time.

Here we go...
Look at the tortoise shaped ones in different hues. I just could not stop myself from picking up these. The ball shaped studded with stones in different colours. These can be worn both by children and teens too to match their dresses.
This one is antique silver like hangings made of white metal, studded with different coloured stones to match the dress. These look chick and elegant. suitable for young ones and teens too.

These too are made of coloured beads in different colours.

All these are quite affordable and even if they last for an year it is more than enough. Children have the tendency to loose their jewellery. So it is OK if they loose one of these as these not so costly.

Keep an eye...I am going to post more  on jewellery.....
