Design A Day-Day 7

Day-7: I wanted it to be a small pattern. I started with 5 circles drawn directly on the cloth. I used 3 strands of cotton floss through out. Used 3 shades of blue, green, lilac and pink shaded floss. Stitches used were Eyelet, Feather, Stem and Chinese Knots.

Actually I thought I would add a few twigs and leaves but ended up with this. I have not used Chineese knots before except for practicing the stitch. The stitch is easy and looks beautiful. So I could not stop my self and kept on adding them.
I have altered the pattern and recorded as given below which is much easier to stitch.
Here is the pattern for you. Hope you have liked it so far.

These designs were created by me. You can use them for your personal use only. If you use them, please send me the pictures of your work, which I will post on my blog or if you post them on your blog or site please link to the original pattern here on my blog and let me know about it. I would appreciate that very much. If you want to share them please attribute the work to me, with link back to this blog. Do not re-publish. Please Don't Post the patterns on your site or blog. I hope you will respect my request.

Thought I would do this series for a week. Now I will add some more patterns for another week. Let us see if I can go beyond that too....

Design A Day-Day 6

Day-6: Here I am once again. This is my 6th handkerchief. All the patterns I have tried so far are simple, small and easy to embroider. I took only half an hour to complete one hand kerchief-that is from drawing the pattern to finishing my embroidery.

I started with the pattern drawn directly on the cloth.
I have used Pearl cotton thread. I have used one more shade of light green, which is not shown in the picture.

Stitches used were Stem and Detached Chain. With just two stitches and two colours, I could get this beautiful floral embroidery.
Here is the pattern for you. You can use different colours and stitches as per your choice.

Hope you have liked my patterns so far.

If you use these patterns, please send me the pictures, or post it on you blog/site and let me know.

These designs were created by me. You can use them for your personal use only. Design A Day-Day 5

Here is Day-5. With many power cuts, I have to schedule all my tasks within the short time that power is supplied. So I am posting it very late today. Sorry for that.
As usual started with the pattern drawn directly on the cloth.
These were were 6 strand cotton floss I used. I used 3 strands mostly except for the stems and few leaves where I sued all 6 strands.
After stitching the three big flowers, I added two small ones. One more colour- pale pink floss was also used.

Stitches used were: Stem, Chain, Detached Chain, Eyelet, star stitch and French Knots. For the bigger flowers, I used eyelet and French knots. For the smaller ones, I used star or double cross stitch.

My eye let stitch used for the bigger flowers was not at all satisfactory. I could have done much better. Perhaps I should have used only two strands instead of three. I wanted to do them again but finally decided to let them be.
So this is the final pattern. Try it out and see. You can use any other stitches you like.

Design A Day-Day 4

So far so good. I could post for three days with out interruption, which is a great achievement for me :). Well here is the Day-4 Pattern.
I started with this pattern drawn directly on the cloth.
I used these colours of 6 strandcotton floss. I used 3 strand for the center and petals and 6 strand for the stem and leaves. Stiches used: Chain and Straight stitches.
Actually for the petals I just wanted to use a few straight stitches. But it was not up to my satisfaction. So I went on adding straight stitches round and round and it ended up  like this.

Here is the pattern for you.
Well you can just mark these four lines (for guidance) as shown below for the petals instead of drawing all the petals and add stitches one after another.

Hope you like it. Watch out for more in the next posts......

Design A Day-Day 2

Day 2-here I am. I love Roses. So I tried one in a different way.

I drew the pattern directly on the cloth on one of the corners. In fact all my of patterns of these projects, I first drew them on the cloth, finished embroidery and then recorded my pattern on paper. Sometimes, I made changes in the pattern or the threads used or added more stitches as I was embroidering. I love this kind of freedom-that is starting with out any set pattern or colour scheme and improving upon as I progress. Well results may not always be good but this is a challenge which thrills me.

So the pattern may be  slightly different from the one I stitched.
These were the two variegated cotton floss, 6 strand which I used.
I used, chain, stem and detached chain and all 6 strands of the floss.
Here is the pattern for you. I think this will look good on blouses, children s' wear, Kurtis, pillow/cushion covers, and many more. You can use different stitches.

Hope you like this...Watch out for more...

So Day-1: In order to use some of the left over threads, I started embroidering small white hand kerchiefs

I started with this design directly drawn by hand on the cloth.

I used these three colours,  6 strand cotton threads. Used 3 strands for embroidery.
 This is the final product.

Stitches used were stem stitch, chain stitch, detached chain and star stitch. Here is the pattern.

Hope you like it. This pattern can be used on blouses, children's clothes, table cloths too.

These designs were created by me. You can use them for your personal use only. If you use them, please send me the pictures of your work, which I will post on my blog or if you post them on your blog or site please link to the original pattern here on my blog and let me know about it. Watch out for more....

Update: I have used 3 strands of thread through out and the design was embroidered in one of the corners of the handkerchief. If you have any questions, you can mail me.

Design A Day

Hi friends. It has been long time since I posted on my blog. As I usually complain my projects are all in various stages and it will take me much time to sort them and complete them. Slowly I am picking them two or three at a time to finish them.

The other day I was going through my stash and organizing my embroidery materials of my work in progress projects. I came across this:
Various threads and floss all tangled into a huge bunch. Some of them I could pick up as they were still in skeins. But the others-all left overs in various lengths tangled into this mess. Just then I also came across a bunch of hand kerchiefs which I wanted to work on. So I decided to embroider on them using these left over threads.

I wanted to do some small projects to boost my morale and also to reassure my self that I too can complete the projects I start. Well what better than such small projects?

So I will post my projects, one at a time -each day. I will also give you the patterns along with them. These are the designs created by me. You can use them for your personal use only. If you use them, please send me the pictures which I will post on my blog or if you post them on your blog or site please link to the original pattern here on my blog. Please Don't Post the patterns on your site or blog. I hope you will respect my request.

I am planning to post the Design A day patterns for a week starting from today. Let us see if I can go beyond that for another week or so.

So watch put for these Free Patterns on my blog.....

Friday-Free Patterns

This weeks pattern:
This again is a motif for crewel work. Crewel work in India is known as Aari work-the chain stitch embroidery done with a hook known as Aari. In this type of embroidery, mostly wool is used (in Kashmir) and silk or cotton threads in other places. It can also be done by ordinary needle but the stitch with Aari is more fine and beautiful.

The above motif is inspired by the designs from Kashmir.

Satin Stitch and Running Stitch or Kanta Stitch Herring Bone Stitch, French Knots can also be used.

This design I created for Crewel Work. I could not start the project, as I do not know where I can get the wool yarn in India. May be I will some time.

Chain Stitch, Satin Stitch or Long and Short Stitch along with Stem or out line Stitch can be used for this motif.
