Fairy Birthday Card

Fairies and Castle in Clouds

Yes Fairies and a Castle in the clouds - that is what one of my little friend wanted in the birthday card. So she chose the elements and I helped her make the card.

I am always making and creating things in urgency with not much time on hands to plan or think of some creative elements. So I end up creating simple and easy ones.

I used a slightly textured, baby pink card stock , A4 size as base. After folding it, I glued on the blue glitter self adhesive tape.

Then added the fairy stickers and the castle. These were self adhesive 3D stickers. I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment using blue stamping ink onto a piece of pink card stock with rounded corners. The edges were touched up with pink stamping ink using cotton swabs. This was glued on to the card using double sided dimensional tape.

Then A bit of cotton was fluffed up and added as clouds near the castle, to give a feeling that the castle was somewhere in the skies beyond the clouds. The card was finished within half an hour under the stern supervision of the little one.

The little one's favorite colours were blue and pink -it is quite obvious from the above :) but they are my favorite colours too.

My little friend was happy and elated withe the card. Shhhhh! The card was created by the little one...I only guided her.

Hope you too like the card.

Cupcake Birthday Card

Hi guys. been a long time. I am battling with termites. Yes. I have lost many of my old books 😭. Most of my dolls, which I use for the Bommala Koluvu, during Sankranti were completely damaged.

Dolls made of cloth, wood or paper or such materials were completely eaten off. Dolls made of clay or plaster of paris were damaged beyond repair. That is, they are covered with grime or tubes or trails-I don't know what to call them. I cannot wash them, as they get damaged. So I had to throw them away.

A few of the dolls made of glass or ceramics, I could wash them with a lot of hard work. But they were not damaged. So I lost much of my doll collection. Now I have still one or two trunks to clean up. I got so depressed with all the damage and grime, I put off my cleaning.

Before I could take it up again, we were hit by demonetisation. Going around the banks for depositing and withdrawing money was a real tiring task. So or the past two months all our works stand suspended as we don't have cash to pay.  We had to struggle a lot. We had to cut off much of our spending, even for our daily needs.

Now it is getting better. But still people are wary to spend money. Market is also very dull. Hmmm...

So there it is. In between all this, we had our festivals, birthdays and anniversaries to celebrate, which could not be celebrated much because of the money factor.

OK now here is my card, which I made for my niece's best friend for her birthday. Here again, I had to make do with what I had, as market was very dull at that time and I did not have much cash in hand to spend on craft materials.

Yellow part is the background on which I placed my card for taking photograph.

Now here is what I did.

I have used white card stock and on it cupcake printed paper as back ground fot the cup cake. Here are the steps:

  • Folded the A4 size white card stock
  • Cut the cup cake patterned paper to required size
  • Glued it to the card stock
  • Glued the sentiment printed ribbon on to the card
  • Glued the rose with the leaves on the ribbon added to the card
  • Cut the pink corrugated paper in cup shape.
  • Cut the cream coloured hand made paper in a semi circle shape(almost)
  • Cut the chocolate sauce part from the dark brown handmade paper.
  • Punched out a small cherry from dark pink metallic paper
  • Glued the chocolate part to the cream coloured semicircle
  • Glued, the cherry on top of the chocolate
  • Glued the coloured crystals to the cake.
  • Now glued the cup to the cake part
  • Tied the pink satin ribbon to the cup-secured it with glue from under side of the cup
  • Tied the bow on the surface of the cup and glued it.
  • I attached the cup cake to the card with the help of dimensional tape to give it a raised effect
  • Finally attached the butterfly sticker on the cup cake.
It looks yummy isn't it?

Hope I have not missed out any part. I was really happy to find the sentiment printed ribbon in my stash. I am not so good with stamping yet. Especially, if I have to add a sentiment to the card. Slightest mistake can ruin it. Moreover, many of the coloured inks, don't print well. Using black may not gel with all cards. So there it is. It is one of my best cards so far....

Materials Used:
  • White card stock A4 size
  • Cupcake patterned paper
  • Dark Brown Hand made paper
  • Cream coloured Hand made paper
  • Pink metallic paper.
  • Pink corrugated paper
  • Pink satin ribbon
  • Sentiment printed Ribbon
  • Butterfly sticker
  • Rose with leaves sticker
  • Small Circle Punch
  • Coloured crystals
  • Dimensional tape and glue

Hope you like it.

Thank You card

Hi Friends ! Hope you are all doing well.

Here the water crisis continues. Temperatures are down a bit but lots of humidity. Well here is a simple thank you card:

The base is blue coloured textured card stock. This looks darker than the actual colour.

I have used three coloured hand made paper, which has an embossed grid on them. I cut out squares out of them and attached it to the card using glue.

Then I punched out the butterflies-four of each colour from the metallic papers. For making one butterfly, I took one butterfly and attached another one with dimensional tape to give it some dimension. Then I added the crystals. I attached the butterfly to the squares using glue.

I stamped out the sentiment in black ink on a circle punched out of yellow card stock, a thinner one. I sponged the edge with orange ink. Then I attached it to the card with dimensional tape.

Hope you like it.

Materials Used:

Blue coloured textured card stock
Yellow, orange and green Hand made papers
Yellow and purple metallic paper.
Yellow card stock
Butterfly and Circle Punches
Coloured crystals
Sentiment stamp
Black and orange Inks
Dimensional tape and glue.

Sunflower Birthday Card

Here is one more birthday card. The theme is sunflower, for sending some sunshine during this monsoon.

I have chosen, cream coloured shimmery card stock as base. I attached the self adhesive black and silver tape. Then I attached the sunflower dimensional sticker.

I added a few butterflies to make it more colourful.

Then I stamped out the sentiment on a punched out circle from yellow hand made paper. I coloured the edge with yellow and orange pencils to match the sunflower and attached it with double sided foam tape to give it dimension.

This is very easy and simple to make.

Materials Used:

Cream coloured shimmery handmade paper
Black and Silver self adhesive tape
3D Sunflower Dimensional sticker
Butterfly Stickers
Yellow coloured hand made paper

Fairy Birthday Card

Hi there. Its been raining here for the past few days. Just showers on and off through out the day as well as night. It is all wet and muddy outside. I am not venturing out to markets unless it is absolutely necessary.

So I am doing some cleaning and weeding out trash and also reorganising my huge stash of hobby materials, daily for some time. Then, I am spending time on my crafts and also trying out new recipes.

Here is one more birthday card:

This card has been designed for a little girl.

I started with a soft pink textured card. First attached the blue printed tape.

Do you believe in Fairies? I certainly do. I feel children should believe in Fairies and miracles. That is why I chose the Fairy theme and attached a fairy with the magic wand.

What do little ones want on their birthday? Gifts, isn't it? So I attached a gift near the wand - as if the gift materialized by her magic.

Then, I came across the wonderful dimensional sticker sentiment. This suited the theme of the fairy I chose.

Next I stamped out the Birthday sentiment, on a circle punched it out of light blue hand made paper.

I always like CAS cards; easy to make and specially for children, I prefer not much clutter on the card.

I am making more cards but they are in various stages.

I don't much like the stamping part. It is all messy and I need to have all my supplies around me. One has to be very careful, in cleaning the stamps and our hands every time we stamp as there is always the danger of using an uncleaned stamp on an ink pad or smudging the greeting cards.

So I am keeping the stamping part for the last. One day I will stamp out the various sentiments required for my finished cards.

Then there are also the envelopes. I am trying to make matching ones. Here the problem is getting the matching colour or design paper and in right thickness. Here we don't have the availability of materials is very limited and mostly what we want may not be available. So one has to make something out of the available ones.

If I have to post, it then, I have to keep in my mind the weight of the card along with the envelope.  Postage is costly.

Hope you like my card.

Materials Used:

Light pink textured card stock
Printed self adhesive tape
Some 3D stickers
Light Blue hand made paper
Circle  Punch
Sentiment stamp and black ink

Watch out for more.....

Back To School Card

It is cloudy here. Just a little rain. Not even reaching the parched earth. Very humid. Still waiting for proper showers so that I can carry on with my work in the garden.

Here is a card made last week. It is back to school time here.

As usual I was under pressure to make these cards with no time at all. I am posting only one card as I couldn't take photos of other cards.

The base is white card stock. I have attached polka dot printed tapes pink and blue colours. Then the stickers of slate, bag, book and colour pencils. I punched out a circle from pink card stock and stamped  the Good Luck message with black ink. I attached it to the card with double sided foam tape.

I attached the same printed tapes to a white envelope and stamped the  sentiment in pink and blue coloured inks.
So. Here it is.

As of now, I am making only simple cards. I am busy with cleaning my home and garden for the monsoon, in between attending to my other chores. I think I need more confidence and spare time before I experiment with some of my creative ideas.

Thank God the pickling season is over for now. It is a lot of work. Need some time to rest.
But I enjoy pursuing my hobbies and creating something new every day.

Materials used:

White Card Stock-Ivory Sheet
Polka dots printed self adhesive tapes
Stickers
Sentiment
Black, pink and blue coloured inks for stamping

Hope you like it.

Birthday Cards for Kids

Hi Friends.

Back after nearly a fortnight. I have been busy with my new batch of students. It will take me till the end of the month to settle everything into a rhythm. After a long period of holidays, children will take time to settle down. I also need to work out a schedule and stick to it.

In between I had to attend to my dad's annual ceremony. A few days before and few days after it we have had a lot to do. It is really back breaking with all the work. But then rituals are strictly to be adhered to.

Here it is hot once again. No rains. Humidity is really unbearable. So I could not spend much time on my crafts. But one of my friends wanted a birthday card for a little one. I had just 4-5 days and with my dad's ceremony in between it was really difficult to create something which would catch  the eye of the child, its parents and the sender(my friend).

I did manage somehow to make this card. Then I had to mail it to reach on time.

This was what I came up with.

I used a textured blue card stock, attached some stickers of animals.

For the tree, I cut brown coloured thin hand made paper for the trunk and glued it. Then I punched out some oval shaped green textured hand made paper for the foliage. I attached some self adhesive red crystals as fruit on the ovals.

The first layer I glued it directly on the card. The upper layers, I used foam tape for dimension.

I punched out some green coloured thin card stock for grass and glued it near the base of the tree.

The sentiment was stamped on thin yellow card stock. I then shaped the edges with a bracket punch. Then I used a brown coloured sharpie to colour the edges of the sentiment as well as the tab, before attaching it to the card.

This is the inside of the card. I added the sentiment, message and balloons and the cake. I got it printed on a cream coloured papaer and glued a heart shaped puffy sticker.
This is the envelope. I had to use a ready made white one.

I had some anxious moments when I was pushing the card inside it. I wanted to make a box type envelope to fit the dimensional stickers and punch art I used without squashing them. I didn't have time at all. Moreover, I am not experienced enough in making such envelopes. I didn't even have proper tools or materials to make one.

Thank God! The Card fit the envelope :) With not much space around it. I attached mini and mickey stickers on the outside. I wanted to stamp it but no time at all.

I couldn't do much as there was no time to even think or shop for material. I had to do with what I had at hand.

I mailed the card and it reached on time. I got a feed back that they all loved it. So everything ended well. Hope you like it too....

Materials used:

Blue textured card stock
Yellow card stock
Green card stock
Green textured hand made paper
Dark brown hand made paper
Animal and cartoon stickers
Red coloured acrylic self adhesive crystals
Clear stamp for sentiment
Black ink for stamping
Brown coloured sharpie
Glue
Envelope
Cream coloured thick paper for inside the card

Card Making Kits

Hello there. We are having some showers here. Day temperatures are down. But it is still sultry. With frequent thunder storms, power cuts have become regular feature. So I have to do all my work as fast as possible-whether it is my daily chores or any other work related with electricity very quickly. We are always apprehensive as to when there will be a power cut. If we are stuck in the middle of doing something, then we have to wait until we get back electricity.

One of my friends gifted me some card making kits. It was some time back and I din't even have time to open and inspect it. Recently, I opened it. Look what I found.

Three different colour card stock, folded and ready to use, three envelopes(white), some embellishments and double sided tape cut into neat little squares.

I felt that the size of cards was way too small. Any way while trying to make the cards, I ended up adding my own embellishments, as some of the one provided were too small.

Here is the first card I made.

I added the purple plaid self adhesive tape, some crystals and the butterfly from my own stash. The butterfly seems to be a little big for the size of the card or the embellishments. But that was the smallest I had and in matching colours.

I jazzed up the white envelope by adding the plaid tape to match the card.  I have not added the sentiment. I made it as all occasion card. I will add required sentiment when I have to give it away.

I think for a beginner or a novice, this kit may be of help. They don't have to buy all the required materials from different places, which is not only time consuming but also costly. But for a crafters like me, who has so much of stash lying around, I think, I prefer to do it in my way, choosing what I like and goes well with the theme or the card.

What do you think about this card? Watch out, I will be posting, other cards I made.

Congratulatory Card

Today I am posting a congratulatory card. I am making some in advance.

This is for celebrating success. I think it  can be used for success in exams, new job or new house, engagement, marriage. I will just add one more sentiment if needed for that particular occasion. Or else I will just add the appropriate message inside.

Now for making this- I started with baby pink textured card( I told you I have tons of them and need to use them at the earliest). I attached the blue chevron printed tape. Then I added the musical instrument stickers. I don't have musical note stickers or stamps. A few of them would have made it better. May be I will add it later, if I can find them. Then I stamped the sentiment "Celebrate" using a clear stamp mounted on acrylic base, on to a pink card stock strip. Then attached it to a blue card stock strip. Cut them into the shape you can see and attached them with dimensional tape.

The banner of glitter multi coloured tape was an after thought to pep it up a bit and give it some colour. I have used a multi coloured cotton thread. You can see here. I used it because it is thick. But it is not showing in the card.

Any way, I have varieties of threads and yarns of different weights, colours and for different uses, ranging from embroidery, crochet, tatting, knitting etc. I experiment with them and use them in various crafts.

So that's it. the card is simple and easy to make.

Materials used:

Textured baby pink card stock
textured blue and baby pink coloured card stock strips
Blue printed tape
Musical stickers
Multi coloured Glittered tape
Multi coloured cotton thread.
Sentiment (clear) stamp mounted on acrylic base
Black ink for stamping

So what do you say about this card. Do watch out for more.......

Birthday Card

Here is one more birthday card. I am making these cards in advance and keeping them ready. Once the schools an colleges start, I will be busy with my students once again. I have to be prepared for many birthdays and other occasions now.

Okay, now about this card- I used a cream coloured textured card stock as base. This is one layered simple fold card. I used blue glitter tape and cartoon sticker. I think they are Cinderella and Snow White.

I made this card with a little girl in my mind. I think she may like the card with these characters. I also kept the card very simple. I don't think children may like too much fancy card. I will print out the message and attach it just before I give away the card. So I kept it blank inside.

Actually I made this card some time ago. I had very few sentiment stamps. Recently I bought some sentiment stamps. So I had to try them out.

I stamped the "May all your dreams come true" in rainbow colours (I believe that dreams are always colourful) and Happy Birthday in blue colour.

But since it was a textured card, the stamping was fuzzy in some places. I touched up with colour pens. Matching the right colour was a problem. But in the end I did my best.

Then I attached the crystals and pearls underneath the sentiments.

There it is. My card is ready.

I have to make the envelopes- for many cards. I am putting it of as I am not able to find matching stationery to make them. May be I will have to settle for white in the end?

Any idea which paper to use for that?

Materials used:

Textured cream coloured card stock
Cartoon Sticker
Blue glitter self adhesive tape
Multi coloured and Blue coloured Inks
Self adhesive crystals/faux pearls
Sentiment Stamps

I am also making other cards and keeping them ready. I will be posting them in my future posts.

Easy Peasy Card

I was away for long. Sorry for that. amidst the hot temperatures and water scarcity, we have had thunder storms in the past few days. Moderate rains did help my plants and the temperatures are down a bit. The power lines were down for some time. So we had no electricity for long hours during the past few days. When ever the storm is on they cut power for safety sake. If that happens during night time or early morning hours then it takes some time for power restoration. That is why I couldn't post.

Here is one more card. This one is a birthday card.

The base you see is a dark pink pearl-marble hand made paper. I think I got that correctly. It has a pearl sheen and also marble affect. It is hand made paper.

The top fold is about one inch less than the bottom fold. I don't think it is clear from the picture. I don't know what this fold is known as. Does any one know?

I first stuck the black printed tape. Both on the top and the bottom folds. It looked so apt.

After that I did not know what to do. None of the papers or other material seemed to match the card.

Ultimately I used a small rectangular piece of black hand made paper as a layer. Stuck to the base with glue. The picture stickers-I used foam tape to give them a little dimension. Added the four self adhesive white stickers to the four corners. Then I stuck the sentiments.

In all it took me just a few minutes to make this card. So what do you think?

Materials used:

Dark pink (pearl) marble handmade Paper
Black printed Tape
Black hand made paper
Sentiment and Picture Stickers
White self adhesive crystals
Foam tape
Glue

Birthday Card

Hi friends, I went shopping with my niece. It was so very hot- we had our tongues hanging out :) like my dog. But we had fun. I am posting all that separately. But because of that shopping in the hot summer afternoon, I was down with fatigue and low energy levels for last two days.

For now, I am continuing my hand made cards series. Here is my fourth card.

I started with a of-white(cream coloured) textured card stock. I had bought a bunch of them as no other material was available in local markets. So I have to exhaust this stock.

I had some printed tape. Which I used on the card. Then I used a few punched flowers and leaves, after shaping them. I stuck some crystals and faux pearls in the flowers. This is how it looked.

Then I added a fairy- a dimensional sticker. I have tons of them which I bought for a project with kids and have a lot left over. I could not take a pic at this stage. It looked good.

Then I added sentiments- clear stamps just bought the other day when I went shopping with my niece. I stamped directly on to the card using orange ink and green ink which I bought along with the stamps.

I was apprehensive and doubtful for trying it out directly on to the card. I was thinking of stamping on a separate sheet and then add to the card. I din't do that and now I don't like the way it turned out. Especially the green one (Happy Birthday) I had to write on it with a green glitter pen as, because of the textured background, the stamping was not clean.

Then I did the most foolish thing. I wanted to try out the distressing technique using my newly bought distress inks.

I used one of the colours and distressed the edges of the card. I don't have much experience with this technique. So I din't like the result especially the bottom part of the card, which had some big blotches of ink, which was accidental . So I had to cover it up with tape. Now I don't like the look of the card. But I am satisfied with punch craft part as they turned out very beautifully.

I am not going to use this card. I will simply keep it in my stash for future reference.

After this episode, I learned some lessons the hard way.  I realised I need to practise and perfect any technique before using it. I am new to stamping and distressing. I need to learn and practise a lot.

Material used:

Textured Card Stock
Printed Tape
Punches
Punch papers
Crystals and faux pearls
Clear stamps
Pigment Ink and Distressed Ink
3D sticker of fairy
Glue

Keep an eye for more posts......

Cherry Blossoms and Butterflies

Here is my third card- the first of my greeting cards using punch craft.

I love Cherry Blossoms and of course Butterflies. So inspired by them here is my card.

Cherry Blossoms and Butterflies

I have used the textured light gray coloured card stock. Brown coloured paper twine was used for the tree branch. First I punched out of-white and light pink flowers and glued around the branches. It looked too drab. So I added the red coloured flowers here and there to brighten it up a bit. OK cherry blossoms are not red in colour-I agree with you.

Then I added the leaves. Hmmm... I had only that green coloured punch craft paper with me. I tried to get any other shade of green but couldn't. So I didn't have any other choice.

Then I bought the little butterfly punch. I had to try it. I ended up with blue butterflies as at that time my punch craft paper stash was very limited. Any way I was testing my skills and an artist has the liberty to create something new out of his/her imagination.

My personal opinion is that the colours did not gel together. But I got the shape of the flowers and leaves well for an amateur.

I did not add any sentiment as I can add it later on, if I want to give it away.

So what do you say? Your comments and suggestions matter a lot. please do stop by and leave your comments/suggestions.....

Good Luck Card

Hi there! it is still very hot here. Still temperatures are well above 40 degrees. Hot winds blow from morning till late in the night. I am struggling to maintain my plants. The situation of water scarcity is so bad that, we are collecting water used for washing clothes and utensils and using it for watering our plants. Surprisingly, my plants are responding well to the water containing detergents(than fresh water) and they seem much greener than before.

OK here is my second card. This was also started along with the first card.

I used a cream coloured textured card stock. I bought this in one of the local stationery shops. I started with trying out the border punch I bought then. Then I abandoned the card for quite some time.

Later on I added the punched flowers. I have used a bit thicker paper(dark and light pink) for the flowers. So when I shaped them, the retained their shape beautifully. I cut out the leaves my self and scored the veins using a used ball point refill. At that time I didn't have a leaf punch and I also wanted bigger leaves.

I added a golden coloured tape on the edges of bottom layer of the card. Then I added other flowers and leaves.
Recently, I bought some stamps and experimented a bit with them. So I added the sentiment.

I added the sentiment GOOD LUCK as I was wishing my students best of luck for their exams.

You can also see the bird punched out of a thick card. I used a seed bead for its eye. Both the bird and circular sentiment were stuck by using dimensional tape. Oh I first cut out a circle and then stamped it.

Material used:

Textured Card stock from local stationery shop
Border punch
Punches of flowers, bird and circle
Seed bead
Punch papers, thick green paper for leaves and thin dark brown colour card for bird, orange coloured hand made paper for the sentiment
Golden coloured tape
Dimensional tape
Glue
Crystal Black coloured Pigment Ink pad
Circular sentiment stamp wooden mounted

The problem with craft material sold in India when we buy locally is that they don't have any details on them like the weight or GSM of the paper, the manufacturer or other details. May be they are bought in bulk and repacked into smaller packs.

Next time if I want to buy it, I don't know what to ask for. I always keep a sample with me and show them. Moreover, there is no guarantee that the shop will be selling the same material again or any other shop for that matter.

I always buy different craft material when I am on shopping round. So it is also difficult to keep track of where and what I am buying.

But one thing is local bought material is cheaper than online ones. I also get to see and touch it before buying.

Similarly the sentiment stamp is wooden mounted and I bought the pack containing six of them. I don't know about the brand or manufacturers name.

So what do you say? Do drop in your comments and suggestions. It will help me a lot....

Watch out for my next posts......
